Jordan
This month, we’re heading to the heart of the Middle East to one of the most captivating destinations on earth: Jordan. It feels like stepping into the pages of an ancient story, where rose-red cities are carved into cliffs, Roman columns rise from desert sands, and sacred biblical landmarks overlook sweeping valleys. Jordan blends history, faith, adventure, and warm hospitality in a way that’s both powerful and deeply personal. If you’re dreaming of floating in the Dead Sea, wandering through Petra at sunrise, or sleeping beneath a blanket of desert stars, Jordan delivers—and I hope this spotlight inspires you to experience it for yourself. Here’s how to explore it from north to south…
jerash
One of the world's best-preserved roman provincial cities
Jerash feels like stepping directly into the pages of ancient history. Walk along the original colonnaded streets, stand in the vast Oval Plaza, and imagine chariot races in the Hippodrome. The Temple of Artemis and the South Theater are particularly impressive, especially when you catch a traditional performance echoing through the stone seats. Jerash offers a powerful glimpse into the Roman Decapolis period and is a must for history lovers.

amman
Jordan's capital where ancient & modern culture collide

Head to Jordan’s capital city and walk through the footsteps of several civilizations. Start at the Citadel, perched high above the city, where you’ll find the Temple of Hercules and sweeping views over whitewashed hills. Explore the Roman Theater downtown before wandering Rainbow Street for cafés and boutiques. Don’t miss the Jordan Museum, home to some of the Dead Sea Scrolls. Amman also serves as a gateway to important biblical sites and offers vibrant food, art, and
culture scenes.

mount nebo
A sacred mountain with stunning mosaics
A short drive from Amman lies Mount Nebo, the sacred mountain where Moses is believed to have seen the Promised Land before his death. On a clear day, you can look across the Jordan Valley toward Jericho and Jerusalem. The mountaintop memorial church contains stunning Byzantine mosaics that depict ancient hunting and pastoral scenes. This is one of Jordan’s most meaningful biblical pilgrimage sites and offers both spiritual significance and panoramic beauty.

petra
One of the new seven Wonders of the World

The crown jewel of Jordan is undoubtedly Petra, and the second you enter the canyon you will know why. Walk through the narrow Siq and watch as the Treasury dramatically appears before you—an unforgettable moment straight out of Indiana Jones! Beyond the Treasury, explore royal tombs, the Street of Facades, and hike up to the Monastery for sweeping desert views. Petra was once the thriving capital of the Nabataean Kingdom and a major trade hub. Consider visiting by candlelight for a magical evening experience.
wadi rum
A martian-like desert experience
Known as the Valley of the Moon, Wadi Rum is a cinematic desert landscape of towering sandstone mountains and vast red dunes. Explore by 4x4 jeep, camel, or even hot air balloon. This is where Lawrence of Arabia once traveled, and the area carries deep Bedouin heritage. Spend the night in a luxury desert camp under a blanket of brilliant stars—it’s pure magic.

the dead sea
A spectacular natural wonder

The shores of the Dead Sea sit at the lowest point on Earth. Floating effortlessly in its salty waters is a bucket-list experience! Cover yourself in mineral-rich mud for a natural spa treatment and soak in the serene desert surroundings. Nearby is Bethany Beyond the Jordan, widely recognized as the baptism site of Jesus—another profound biblical landmark.
aqaba
Jordan’s only coastal city, Aqaba, sits along the Red Sea and offers incredible snorkeling and diving among vibrant coral reefs. Relax at beach resorts or take a glass-bottom boat tour. Aqaba also provides access to ancient Islamic sites and the early church of Aqaba, believed to be one of the world’s oldest purpose-built churches. It’s the perfect place to unwind after exploring Jordan’s deserts and ruins.

when to visit
The best times to visit Jordan are March to May and September to November. Spring brings wildflowers to the hills and comfortable temperatures for exploring Petra and Wadi Rum. Fall offers warm days and cooler evenings perfect for desert adventures and floating in the Dead Sea. Summers can be quite hot, especially in southern desert regions, while winters are mild but occasionally rainy in the north.
What to eat
Dining in Jordan is about more than food—it’s about hospitality. It's rich, comforting, and deeply tied to tradition. Expect tea, stories, and warm welcomes everywhere you go!
